2026 Mock Trials Announced

 FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

 2026 MOCK TRIALS ANNOUNCED

Judge Adam W. Wilgus will host the 2026 Ohio Mock trial competition Friday, January 30, 2026 at the Tuscarawas County Courthouse.  Many local schools are expected to send teams: Claymont, Dover, Garaway, and New Philadelphia. Teams from Steubenville High School  and Edison High School also will travel to Tuscarawas County to participate.
The Ohio Center for Law-Related Education presents the Mock trial competition and provides the issue in which the students will present both sides to area attorneys who volunteer their time to be judges.
This year, the student teams will  argue a motion to suppress evidence in a fictional criminal case: State of Buckeye v. Morgan Remy. In this case, the students will examine the intersection of the Fourth Amendment, privacy and the expanding use of consumer genealogical databases in criminal investigations. This case specifically explores what happens when advances in forensic technology collide with constitutional protections against unlawful searches.
The competition is free and open to the public to attend.
Winners will advance to the regional mock trial competition which will be held on February 20, 2026.
